Heads up, the StarkNet Edu newsletter has migrated to Revue.
59 people have already registered for Basecamp but there’s still time for you to join as well. Basecamp is a complete course on StarkNet that will be presented live so you can ask questions and interact with the StarkWare team as you go along.
The course starts on October 20th and will last 6 weeks, consisting of weekly 2-hour sessions + homework. To participate in Basecamp, you must register by clicking on the button below.
What Kind of Layer 3s Make Sense?
In his blog post, Vitalik Buterin analyzes how the introduction of layer 3s can further scale the capacity of a blockchain beyond what a rollup (layer 2) can offer and some of the associated tradeoffs. Vitalik in particular discusses how StarkWare’s fractal scaling strategy with specialized layer 3s, using different data availability modes and all relying on a shared prover (SHARP) is the best scalability strategy.
StarkNet Community Call #23
In this community call moderated by Henri Lieutaud (@henrlihenrli), people from Braavos and Nostra present their projects.
In the first part of the video, Motty Lavie (@mottylen) presents Braavos, a wallet for StarkNet that is available as a browser extension for Chrome-based browsers, and for Android and iOS mobile devices. An interesting topic from his presentation is Braavos’ plan to use StarkNet’s account abstraction capabilities to enable 2FA and configurable spending limits for wallets.
In the second part, Đorđe (@mijovic988), Richard (@RTPthefirst) and Tony (@0xToro) present Nostra, a DeFi project that wants to become the liquidity layer of StarkNet. Tempus, the team behind Nostra, has a 5 million DAI fund to support the integration of their protocol into the StarkNet ecosystem.
STARK Struck Podcast #4
Oskar (@Oskarlso) and Jonas (@jonas_nelle) from Empiric Network, an oracle on StarkNet, discuss with Henri about their professional careers, how they got involved with blockchain and the story of why Empiric Network was created.
One of the most interesting points in the podcast was a discussion around how StarkNet’s off-chain computation allows for more advanced data feeds that an oracle can provide (asset volatility, correlation, etc.) and how this could make DeFi on StarkNet more capital efficient.
You can follow the STARK-Struck podcast on Spotify.
Remote-Controlled Accounts Workshop
There are still a few weeks before Halloween but Henri Lieutaud (@henrlihenrli) is already creating zombie smart contracts on StarkNet controlled by a brain on Ethereum. Stripped to its fundamentals, this workshop shows you how cross-chain transactions between Ethereum and StarkNet work.
Choosing a StarkNet Development Tool
So you plan to start building on StarkNet but don’t know which tool to use to setup your development environment? You can use the diagram below created by David Barreto (@barretodavid) to have an idea of which tool might be best for you. There’s also an article in case an image is not worth a thousand words as they say ;)
Setting Up A StarkNet Dev Environment with Python
There’s beauty in simplicity, even when it comes to your dev environment. In this article, David Barreto (@barretodavid) explains step by step how to create a simple but effective development environment for StarkNet using only Python’s built-in tools and cairo-lang.
Journey Through Cairo VII - Builtins, Hints and Revoked References
Nnam Darlington (@0xdarlington) is writing a series of articles doing deep dives on different Cairo topics and this time was the turn for builtins, hints and revoked references.
