Get Ready, Darling: A TPS Boost is on the Horizon!
Maximizing TPS, the Power of Cairo, and the Evolution of the Starknet Book
Greetings, fellow basecampers!
Let's kick things off with a snippet from "The Speed of Progress: A Blockchain Poem," a lyrical masterpiece penned by the muses of our Starknet community.
More transactions per second,
That's what we all want to see.
Faster and faster,
Our transactions will be.
No more waiting in line,
No more slow confirmations.
Just instant transactions,
That’s the way it should be.
So let’s all work together,
To make this dream a reality.
More transactions per second,
That’s the future of blockchain.
Cairo 1 contracts on Mainnet
Starknet Mainnet is now operating on v0.11.2, which includes the activation of Cairo 1. This means that you can now deploy Cairo 1 contracts on Mainnet. We are excited to see what developers build with Cairo 1.
The next major milestone for Starknet is the upcoming update that will increase the Transactions per Second (TPS) on Starknet. We are happy to continue working with the Starknet community to make Starknet the best it can be 🚀

Starknet Book Advances
Our Starknet community is a powerhouse of innovation and collaboration! Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the constellation of over 40 authors who have helped bring the Starknet book to life.
We are advancing in several chapters, for example:
Chapter 2: Smart Contracts in Cairo - Added a section on the Kakarot ZKEVM.
Chapter 3: Starknet Tooling - Now features improved subchapters on Scarb and Protostar.
Chapter 5: Front-End Development - Includes a new subchapter on starknet-react.
Chapter 9: Cairo Architecture - We have a new "Integrated and Dynamic Layouts” subchapter.
You still have time if you would like to contribute and be part of the authors’ table! Head over to the following issue on GitHub. Our next priority is gathering contributions and examples using starknet-py, starknet-js, and starknet-rs.
Together, we are building a thriving ecosystem 🖖
Katana: A new sequencer for Starknet written in Rust
Katana is primarily designed for development purposes, offering a simplified approach compared to Madara. It does not include support for consensus mechanisms and similar functionalities. Instead, Katana provides features like cheat codes and other APIs that benefit development tasks. In terms of functionality, it shares similarities with Foundry’s Anvil.
Kakarot’s Roadmap
Kakarot zkEVM implements the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) written in Cairo, enabling provable transactions and blocks. It allows developers to build and deploy EVM apps, offering interoperability and composability between protocols. Kakarot can exist as a smart contract on Starknet L2 or be integrated into a stack with Madara to create an L3 zkEVM, providing EVM-compatible fractal scaling.
The roadmap includes Phase 1, bringing Kakarot zkEVM to Starknet, and Phase 2, combining Kakarot and Madara for L3 zkEVMs. Phase 3 explores the possibility of Kakarot becoming a type 1 zkEVM client, dependent on Ethereum’s roadmap advancements.
