Hey, frens 🤗!
We start the first week of the year with the news of the Starknet ecosystem. Cairo 1.0 is here! New STARK Struck Podcast episode. A thread about how L2s add an extra dimension to Ethereum capabilities. More StarkNet Africa Cairo Online Classes. In STARK @ Home, Richard and Skaff share the story of Magic The Gathering. A first look at Cairo 1.0 and a tutorial on deploying Cairo Contracts with the Universal Deployment Client using Protostar.
Cairo 1.0 is here
The first public version of Cairo 1.0 is now available. Developers can start writing, compiling, and testing Cairo 1.0 programs!
One of the most significant changes in Cairo 1.0 is the syntax. We have taken inspiration from Rust to create a more developer-friendly language that is easier to read and write.
STARK Struck w/ Snapshop
This week Henri gets to know @scottpiriou from @SnapshotLabs.
L2s adding an extra dimension to Ethereum capabilities
Scalability isn't just about cheap transactions. It has two axes: number of transactions and complexity. Gas costs for computation define what we can expect from smart contracts, just like the capacity of a vinyl disc determines the length of an album.

The second cohort of StarkNet's basecamp has started.
Start the year learning with the StarkWare team and relevant external guests 🤫, all about Cairo, StarkNet, and STARKs.
You can still join, but first please study the Getting Started Camp! Then write to @espejelomar on Twitter.
More Cairo Online Classes with StarkNet Africa
StarkNet Africa Community will be having a series of online classes this year. Learn to build minimal, intentionally-limited implementations of different protocols, standards, and concepts in Cairo
The first class is Min-StarkNet Buidl by @0xdarlington and starts on Jan 12th.

STARK @ Home 28: Unlocking the Magic: Exploring the Future of Magic The Gathering with StarkNet
In this STARK @ Home, Richard and Skaff share the story of Magic The Gathering, examining everything from the past to the present and what blockchains can bring in the future.
