Appchains on Starknet Stack
Open invite to the US web3 community
The future of Web3 is now
Starknet alpha V0.12.0 is now deployed on testnet, and will soon be put to a vote to be deployed as the next official version of the Starknet OS. This version is another step in Starknet’s journey to scale Ethereum, with a focus on addressing throughput and latency.
For 1 year now, the engineers at Starkware Industries have been working together with the good folk at LambdaClass to improve the Starknet tech stack. This upgrade sees several new changes, some notable ones being …
The new system boasts Rust based implementation and several optimizations, letting it jump from processing just 30K to 220K Cairo steps per second
The new tech stack uses a Cairo runner called cairo-rs and a new execution client called Blockifier

Old dog, new old tricks
Ethereum’s leading toolkit for developers, Foundry, is coming to Starknet. This is supposed to be a successor to the popular Protostar toolchain - which has now been deprecated.
Foundry has been celebrated by the Ethereum ecosystem for being ultra performant, and allowing developers to test their smart contracts in the same language as the programs they are writing. These features, needless to say, have been extended to Starknet Foundry as well.

An Appchain a day keeps the gas fees at bay
The need for Appchains, application-specific blockchains that are designed to service the needs of one specific application, has been apparent for several years and is now getting renewed attention.
StarkWare’s SaaS offering StarkEx, has been powering the most successful L2 Appchains running on Ethereum to date, like dYdX and Sorare. To date (July 2023), StarkEx has settled some $1T in cumulative trading and processed over 500M transactions.
Similar to StarkEx, Starknet Appchains are the bespoke environment where applications can tailor an instance of Starknet to achieve better control over the specs, lower cost, greater scale, and opt-in privacy.

All aboard the ‘Murica express
After winning hearts and minds world over in the web3 ecosystem, Starknet is now looking for the brightest builders in North America to help build out the network. To do so, most of the Starkware core team will be traveling to the US for the Science of Blockchain 2023 conference at Stanford university.
Starkware is also hosting a series of in person events on both coasts in the days following SBC - in LA, Austin and New York to name a few.
So take a look at the exciting schedule of building and networking events we have prepared. We’re super excited to get to know you better :)
Events around the world
As always, we strive to bring an in person element to our fast growing blockchain community. Feel free to choose from any of these amazing meetups happening in a city near you -
Alchemy <> Starknet Mixer - 3rd of August. RSVP here.
Starknet Hacker House - Aug 27. Apply here.
Starknet Summit - Aug 31. Get tix while supplies last.
So basically,
Now you know about the latest infrastructural upgrades to Starknet in some detail. You have also been made familiar with the new development framework for Starknet, as well as Starknet’s new appchain stack.
Finally, we are excited to catch you in person at various events happening around the world this month.
